About this course

Adolescents and young adults often get bad press. Between the negative stereotypes or the perception that they are generally healthy and do not need additional help, we find that this age group is often under resourced and overlooked.

However, young people (aged 10–25) are going through a unique and exciting transitional life stage. They have specific health needs and often require adaptations to your practice to ensure services can remain accessible and supportive during this transitional period. Developing an understanding of the health needs of young people and how to support them provides benefits both for now and for our future population.

This two-session course - which takes place online over two consecutive mornings - is developed with, and co-delivered, by young people and experts in adolescent health. It provides a space to explore and understand what youth friendly health services from a young persons perspective and hear from young people about how they feel health inequalities for this age range can be addressed.

This is an interactive course and participants are asked to take part in small and whole group discussions. Group size is limited to 20 people to ensure that you have an opportunity to meet and share experience with colleagues and to interact with the young trainers. Participants are asked to keep cameras on and be in an environment where they are able to unmute and join in discussions.

The course includes a mixture of theory, practical guidance and group work on case studies. Young trainers guide the learning, drawing on lived experience help you explore how you can develop your practice in this area.
